New safety inspection system launched

We have launched Safety Culture – an online inspection tool - to most of our Customer & Communities team to improve the quality of information we hold on our customers’ homes.
Safety Culture
We have launched a new safety inspection system
This system will be used to record our estate inspections that are carried out by frontline colleagues.

What is Safety Culture?

Safety Culture is a digital inspection and audit platform to support compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety Act 2021.

The new system aims to help manage safety, quality, and operational compliance by allowing us to house a variety of different inspection types in one place, including key inspection information from fire doors, internal and external buildings, and external grounds.

Safety Culture can be accessed on the go via a website or app. This new streamlined way of working will help to improve the accuracy of our reporting, reduce duplication of information and minimise risk.

Key features of Safety Culture include:

  • Customisable checklists – Create and modify inspection templates
  • Mobile inspections – Conduct audits via smartphone or tablets, even offline
  • Automated reports – Generate and share inspection reports instantly
  • Issue tracking & correction actions – Log problems, assign actions, and monitor resolution progress
  • Analytics & insights – Gain visibility into trends and compliance issues
  • Integrations – Connect with platforms like Microsoft Teams, Power BI and Sharepoint.
Why are we introducing Safety Culture?

We knew more needed to be done to improve the quality of data that we hold on our properties and improve processes for colleagues to access the right information.

Safety Culture was first introduced to a small number of users in our Enhanced Housing Management Team in 2023 to meet the immediate requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety Act 2021. Following this we decided to expand the use of the platform to more colleagues.

What has happened so far?

Since April 1, 2025 the usage of the platform has expanded to our Customer & Communities and Health & Safety teams, meaning the platform covers inspection data for more than 1,500 sites.

Safety Culture has allowed us to begin moving away from teams using a range of platforms to carry out inspections. This will reduce the risk of inconsistent data collection and inaccurate reporting across the organisation.

Since its launch, Safety Culture has been used by more than 100 colleagues, with more than 1,600 inspections successfully scheduled and more than 100 completed.

Tania Emery, Director of Building Safety, said: “We are committed to improving our processes to ensure compliance with the latest legislation and keep our customers safe.

“The introduction of Safety Culture is another important step to improve the quality of data we hold on our properties and ensure colleagues have access to key inspection records in one platform.

“We are already seeing the positive difference that this new platform is having on our ways of working but we know there is still more work to do and deliver on our improvement plans.”

What next?

We will continue to test and monitor the usage of Safety Culture. We will listen to feedback from colleagues and it is hoped that the platform will continue to deliver positive outcomes and can be rolled out to more teams across the organisation.
