Asset Management
Backed by the National Housing Federation (NHF), the working group aims to drive usage of BIM, described as the “managed scoping, production, checking and delivery of digital asset information”, to increase building safety standards in the sector in the wake of Grenfell and the Hackitt Review.
NHF recently released a brochure, named BIM for housing associations: asset management in the 21st Century, giving an introduction to the project and fully set out its aims and the benefits of BIM for housing associations and others in the industry.
Gary Bellenger, Assistant Director of Property Services at A2Dominion, believes that BIM has the potential to offer a great deal across the housing sector and is currently under adopted. This drive is a good way to address that.
“Like A2Dominion, many housing associations are considering integrating BIM into their ways of working,” he continued. “Implementing BIM principles into design, build and asset management activity is a big challenge. We believe that collaborating with other housing associations and BIM experts will make it easier for organisations to implement BIM, making a real difference to safety standards across the sector, along with delivering other tangible benefits for housing associations.”
Other benefits of incorporating BIM processes into development and asset management strategies include aiding procurement, handover, asset management and reducing cost and waste.
