Our history of providing homes started in the 1940s and we’ll be with our customers and the communities they live in for the long term. Therefore, we have a clear motivation to ensure our continued impact on the world is positive for future generations.
Our sustainability journey
The effects of climate change threaten our homes, customers, and business. To keep our customers safe and healthy and our business resilient to these changes, we adopted our Climate Resilience Strategy in 2024 that will enable us to navigate the challenges ahead sustainably. The strategy has three core components:
- Environmental Stewardship: we are committed to managing natural resources in a way that reduces harm and seeks to preserve the environment
- Triple Bottom Line: we will appraise social, environmental, and financial performance in decision-making processes
- Cradle 2 Cradle: we commit to developing our understanding of the whole lifecycle and environmental impact of materials and services used in our operations, even beyond our involvement and aim to reduce negative impacts across the whole value chain – this means looking at where we source materials, how we build homes, and how we dispose of waste.
Progress so far
We have been taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint as we work towards our 2050 net zero target. As of 2024/25, over 80% of our homes are rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C and above, which is a marked improvement from just five years ago when this figure was only 51%.
Higher EPC rating means more energy efficient homes that are typically cheaper to run and produce less carbon emissions; better for people and the planet. However, more needs to be done to achieve our goal of 100% homes at EPC C or above by 2030.
Upcoming plans
A2Dominion owns and operates over 100 heat networks that directly supply energy to thousands of residents and businesses. As noted in the UK Government’s Warm Homes Plan, heat networks are expected to form a significant part of the future low-carbon heating needs of homes across the UK. We are developing a roadmap to decarbonise our heat networks and improve them to deliver affordable and cleaner energy to our customers.
In addition, we are investing further in low-carbon technologies such as solar panels as well as increasing electric vehicle charging capacity across our homes. As the UK continues to transition to more renewable energy sources, we are able to support customers with cleaner energy that should also save them money on their energy bills in the long run.
We also recognise that the cost of living is putting pressure on many customers. We are committed to eliminating fuel poverty through energy efficiency improvements and financial support, such as cavity wall insulation and energy vouchers, delivering long-lasting positive social impact.
Dedicated team
To help deliver our targets, our dedicated sustainability team works with colleagues across the business to support the delivery of retrofit projects, community initiatives, manage the decarbonisation of our heat networks and help embed sustainability across our operations.
