The partnership with the London-based food charity is one of many initiatives to help address hunger and food waste amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The community event took place on Wednesday 20 December at the Orchard Café on the Green Man Lane estate, with colleagues and volunteers helping to deliver, pack and distribute 750kg worth of food packages, including fresh fruit and vegetables, pre-prepared meals and savoury snacks.

We also distributed clothes, books, and hygiene products to those in need. Our community investment team were also on hand to provide advice and raise awareness of the support that is available, including bursaries.

We have a strong social purpose and chose The Felix Project as our charity of the year for 2023. The partnership organised many events over the summer, including at the Havelock Centre in Southall and at the Beethoven Centre in Queens Park, distributing more than 26,000 meals to families.

Dele Ryder, Partnership and Fundraising Manager at A2Dominion, said: “Our partnership with The Felix Project has helped us to support so many people this year and we are incredibly proud of everyone who has taken part. We know times remain tough for so many people and we will do everything we can to continue to raise awareness and support future projects for those who need it most.”

Damien Conrad, Community Partnerships Manager at The Felix Project, said: “The Felix Project can only do what we do with the help of partners like A2Dominion. The dedication and hard work of the team in setting up Christmas markets to ensure that this great food reached residents was fantastic.

"But ultimately, we would all rather that we lived in a world where there was no need to hand out food, so it was reassuring to see how visitors to the project were being offered support, business advice and even funding for training that will help them back into employment”

Adama is an A2Dominion resident living in Ealing and volunteers at the café’. She said: “Some people in the community have big families and some of them are single parents and now the cost of living is very hard. This is something that will help families with their daily food cost and living cost.”

She added: “It’s really good for them to come in and get some things for their families.”

It is estimated that 1.2 million adults in London struggle to afford to eat every day, with 300,000 children at risk of missing the next meal. In 2022, The Felix Project delivered the equivalent of 29 million meals, saving more than 12,000 tonnes of food from going to waste

We’re committed to helping people in the communities we operate in and our community investment team have three key aims at the heart of its operations; cost of living capability, health and wellbeing and strengthening communities. In 2022/23, we spent £1.3m on community investment activities, supporting more than 5,800 people.

We’re teaming up again with The Felix Project from 11am on Wednesday 27 December at the Orchard Café, Singapore Road, London, W13 0EP. A third event is planned at the same venue on Wednesday 3 January.
