New G15 report highlights the importance of social housing

The G15, a group of 11 London-based housing associations that A2Dominion are part of, has published a new report highlighting the vital contribution social housing plays in supporting the London and UK economy, communities and public services.

A2Dominion contributed statistics to the report, including a case study showcasing the essential role Aleks Alexandrov plays as a Neighbourhood Manager supporting residents in our communities, which you can read on page 26.

The report titled, A city that works for everyone: How social housing supports London’s economy and communities, includes new analysis on the economic contribution of social housing residents, the role they play in key worker jobs, and the impact housing costs have on people’s lives.

Key findings from the report:

  • London’s social housing residents contributed £28bn to the economy in 2024
  • Social housing residents contribute more than £9 to the economy for every £1 received in housing benefit
  • London's social homes create around £20bn of social value each year
  • 65% of employed social housing residents work in key worker occupations, compared with around 40% of London's workforce as a whole
  • 86% of Londoners say housing costs have influenced where they live
  • 72% of Londoners say housing costs have delayed major life decisions
  • Nearly one in five have delayed having children because of housing costs
  • Social housing helps people remain close to jobs, schools, public services and the communities they value.
