Audrey Needham House
The anniversary celebration brought together residents, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders for a vibrant event made possible through the Group donation fund and the dedication of staff and volunteers. From live music and Morris dancing to a surprise appearance by an Elvis impersonator, the day reflected the spirit of joy and connection that defines ANH.
A proven model for extra care housing
Audrey Needham House provides accommodation and care for 39 residents, many of whom live with mobility challenges or long-term health conditions. The scheme is designed to promote independence while ensuring access to 24/7 support—an approach that aligns with national priorities and reducing pressure on health and social care systems.Julie Maidment, who has managed the scheme since 2005, brings a background in social work and a personal passion for care.
“No two days have been the same over the last 20 years. Every day brings something new, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful.”
“It was a lot of hard work to organise, but seeing the residents smile and enjoy the day made every bit of effort worth it.”
Julie’s leadership and the commitment of her team have helped ANH maintain consistently high satisfaction ratings and strong relationships with commissioning partners.
Community engagement and volunteerism
Jason and Christie, two long-standing volunteers, support everything from daily activities to social clubs and practical tasks. Jason also leads the Men’s Buddy Club, which encourages social interaction among male residents—an often-overlooked aspect of wellbeing in older populations.Their contributions were recently recognised with a Making a Difference in the Community award, underscoring the value of volunteer engagement in care environments.
Resident-centered
The impact of ANH is best illustrated through its residents:- Dom, living with MS, found renewed confidence and purpose through community activities and peer support.
- Pam, the scheme’s longest-standing resident, enjoys a fulfilling lifestyle after a stroke made independent living difficult.
- Janet, a recent arrival, has quickly become a community leader, contributing to events and decorations with creativity and warmth.
These stories highlight the scheme’s success in fostering inclusion, resilience, and quality of life.
